About Woodbine Racetrack
Situated in Rexdale, Ontario, Woodbine is easily the most famous name in Canadian race course history. Woodbine is home to the $1-million Queen's Plate, North America's oldest continuously run stakes race. Woodbine is a beautifully built multimillion-dollar facility, holding a total of three tracks, and is the only racetrack in North America capable of conducting standardbred and thoroughbred horse racing on the same day.
The original Woodbine opened in 1874 on what at the time was considered the eastern outskirts of Toronto, but is now virtually part of the city's downtown. The present Woodbine was opened on June 12, 1956, and is nestled on 640 acres on the northwestern outskirts of Toronto. Woodbine offers a luxurious casino, as well as extensive lounges and dining accommodations. Woodbine's design makes it one of the most modern tracks in North America. Its facilities are a must-see for anyone visiting the Toronto area.
Woodbine Racetrack revealed a new Polytrack race track in August 2006 and became the second track in North America to hold a race meeting on a partly synthetic surface. Polytrack offers a safer, more consistent racing surface compared to a conventional dirt track.
