About Mountaineer Park Racetrack
Mountaineer is situated on the Ohio River in Chester, West Virginia, approximately 40 miles south of Youngstown, Ohio, and 35 miles west of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Established in 1951 as a horse-racing venue, Mountaineer historically focused its operations on pari-mutuel wagering and related amenities. Following the April 1995 appointment of Edson R. Arneault as chairman and CEO, the track started to capitalize on the passage of the Lottery Act by repositioning the facility as a gaming destination resort and diversified entertainment facility. Mountaineer has been renovated and has incrementally increased the number of slot machines as legislative developments either permitted or made the operation of slots more profitable.
