Meadowlands Racetrack is situated in East Rutherford, N.J., on the northern part of the state and adjacent to Giants Stadium. The Meadowlands Racetrack, including the main building, horse barns and site, was designed by the Philadelphia architectural firm Ewing Cole Cherry Brott, which also designed a number of other track facilities around the world as well as Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia (with HOK Sport).
Some important dates for the Meadowlands include Sept. 1, 1976, when harness racing debuted at the track, and Sept. 6, 1977, when thoroughbred racing commenced. With its sweeping curves and wide stretches, the "Big M" has been known for exceptional times for harness racing. Opening night at the track featured the fastest harness mile run in New Jersey at the time and the world record for a mile by a standardbred was established at the track on June 22, 1996.
