About Hoosier Park Racetrack
Hoosier Park Racetrack, located in Anderson, Indiana, opened on Sept. 1, 1994, to an overflow crowd of 7,633. In November of that year, Hoosier offered simulcasts on the Breeders' Cup, marking the first time the people of Indiana could wager on thoroughbred racing while in the state. A week later, the track hosted the $40,000 Dan Patch Invitational, the first Hoosier Park race simulcast to other venues.
On August 21, 1995, work started to transform Hoosier Park's racing surface from standardbred to thoroughbred. The three-day job included 12,000 tons of cushion and an interior rail. On August 15, 1998, ESPN2 produced a live, hour-long broadcast from Hoosier Park for the American Championship Harness Series.
In the 2002 Hoosier Cup, Indiana horse-racing history was made when purses totaled $1,573,200, a state record. A total of $1,030,343 was wagered on the card, marking the first time the $1-million barrier was eclipsed during a harness season.
Dining accommodations at Hoosier Park include a full-service restaurant that overlooks the finish line. The Homestretch Restaurant features tabletop monitors and an excellent wait staff.
