Fairplex Park Racetrack, originally created in 1923, is part of the annual festivities at the Los Angeles County Fair. The L.A. County Fair is a showcase of entertainment, education, exhibits, horticulture, arts, agriculture, horse racing, science, technology and special attractions. It is the largest county fair in North America and annually ranks in the top 10 among all North American fairs and exhibitions. The annual average attendance for the fair is approximately 1.3 million. Fair attendance has topped 1 million in all but one year since 1948.
The Fairplex grounds cover 543 acres, including Fairplex Park, its major horse-racing facility with a grandstand and 5/8-mile racetrack. The grounds also include a world-class equine auction complex, the Barretts Equine Limited. In addition to a recreational vehicle park, there is a state-of-the art child development center, scenic parks, plazas, picnic areas, a historic train exhibit, 12 acres of carnival grounds and approximately 250 acres of paved parking areas to accommodate 30,000 vehicles.
