The grand finale of the Breeders' Cup World Championships is the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic, a weight-for-age thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds and up run at a distance of 1 1/4 miles on dirt - and again this year on a synthetic surface for just the second time in the 25-year history of the Breeders' Cup. Going into the race Curlin was the heavy favorite, but at 13/1 odds to win it was Raven's Pass, a European thoroughbred, that surprised a crowd of 51,331 horse racing fans to take the lion's share of the purse. Henrythenavigator placed second while Tiago finished third. Curlin came in at fourth.
