About the Turf
The $3 million Breeders’ Cup® Turf is a 1 1/2-mile weight-for-age Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds and up. In recent years European-based horses have dominated the race, but last year English Channel captured the Turf on his third try and gave U.S.-based horses a clean sweep of the Breeders' Cup turf races. He captured the Eclipse award for outstanding male turf horse for his efforts. Chief Bearhart's winning time of 2:23.92 from 1997 has never been beat.
